Lord Verney's Gown-1/2 Scale

Date Completed

May 2022

This is a 1/2 scale replica of Lord Francis Verney's Gown. Currently in the possession of the National Trust at Claydon House, Buckinghamshire.

This was made as part of a module for my degree, where we make a 1/2 scale replica of an existing historical gown. For the module, I went to go and see the gown in real life (which was so cool, and totally made me want to work in period garments restoration and curation!) and proceeded to make it, using the pattern that exists in Janet Arnold's 'Patterns of Fashion' book.

It's made from the same Purple silk as my Purple Georgian Dress, and the lining is a faux, synthetic fur. The trim on the sleeves is all sewn by hand (that took A LOT of movies to get through...) but I am so in love with the finished product, and all the experiences that this module afforded me.
